Longtime assistant Sam Thompson has been named the new head football coach at Saint Agnes School.
Thompson replaces Tom Flood, who decided to step down after his second 5-year stint as head coach of the Aggies. Flood finished 73-29 over his 10 years as head coach. He led the Aggies to the state tournament during the 1995-96 and 1997-98 seasons. Recently, the Aggies have played in 4 consecutive section championship games while posting a 34-15 record.
“My plan was to take the job for 5-6 years to rebuild the football team and mentor a successor,” said Flood. “The program is in a great place right now and Sam is ready to take the helm.”
Thompson has been Flood’s right hand man the past five seasons and has played a big role in the team’s success. In an era where many schools have to co-op with others to field a team the Aggies have grown from 26 players in 2017 to 65 players this past season all without having to co-op.
“I am very thankful and excited for this opportunity; it has been a privilege to be part of the rebuild of this program and I am ready to keep the program moving forward,” remarked Coach Thompson.
